SUTD students co-designing Archie Math and CALLIOPE AI learning tools

Help Co-Design Archie Math and CALLIOPE: An Invitation to SUTD Students

What should AI do when you get stuck? Should it simply give you an answer, or help you think, practise and improve?

I am inviting SUTD students to join a 45–60 minute co-design session and help shape two early AI-mediated learning tools: Archie Math and CALLIOPE.

This is an opportunity to try working prototypes, share what learning and assessment are really like from a student’s perspective, and influence how these tools support future learners.

Archie Math: Support for the next step

Archie Math is being developed for undergraduate calculus. It uses guided, Socratic support to help learners make sense of a problem, identify what is blocking them and find a productive next step—without simply revealing the final answer.

Your experience can help us design support that is useful when a concept feels abstract, a solution path is unclear or existing resources do not address the precise point where you became stuck.

CALLIOPE: Practise speaking with useful feedback

CALLIOPE supports oral assessments and spoken communication, including presentations, interviews, viva-style examinations and spoken explanations.

The goal is to help students practise and receive structured feedback that is clear, constructive and fair. Your perspective can help determine what feedback should focus on, how it should be presented and what would genuinely build confidence rather than add pressure.

What will happen in the session?

  • Share the challenges you encounter and how you currently prepare.
  • Try early concepts and working prototypes.
  • Take part in collaborative co-design activities.
  • Suggest features, feedback and forms of support that would actually help.
  • Comment on usefulness, clarity, usability and perceived fairness.

Why participate?

You do not need technical, mathematical-design or product-design experience. Your experience as a student is the expertise we need.

By participating, you can help ensure that educational AI is developed with students, not merely delivered to them. Sessions can be conducted in person or online. Participation is voluntary and will not affect your grades or academic standing.
